The Talisman, a Romance by Sir Walter Scott, Bart., edited by Rederick Treudley, A. B., published by the Macmillan Company, New York, 1925. 421 pages.
This is a miniature dark cloth hardcover volume with stamped gilt lettering and impressed ornamentation on cover and spine. There is moderate wear to the cover, including some discoloration, rubbing along edges and spine fold, rubbed off gilt etc. This little book has been through a lot over its 94 year life. It’s fallen prey to the students it taught there are some (erased) traces of pencil underlining of difficult words. The book has assisted in creation of herbarium collections numerous flowers had been preserved between its leaves. The book has also served as the early testing grounds for the Rorschach test, as evinced by near symmetrical red-and-black blotches of colour on the inside cover.
In short, this miniature antique (measuring 15x11x2cm) has a lot of history that does not in the slightest take away from everything it has to offer an early, clean, and long-lasting publication of one of Scott’s iconic Waverly novels.
