An early rare edition (stated fifth) of R. L. Stevenson classic children’s book. Green cloth hardcover volume with gilt stamped ornamentation and lettering on cover and spine. Some wear and rubbing on cover, especially around edges and corners. Gilt partially rubbed off on spine. Wear on back cover, especially around bottom. Foxing on end papers, thin tear where front and back end papers attach to spine. Top, bottom and fore edges gilt.
No writing or similar markings anywhere in the book. There are several instances where there are age and “finger print” type stains, mostly in the margins. Several pages are separating from the spine. There are no dampstains or mold. The overall condition is good.
This rare book has gone through the tiny hands of many generations of children, and it is possible to tell which of the book’s verses were the favorites and thus most read.
